Dear Friends,

Over the past few years, writing here on Medium has been a meaningful part of my efforts to reflect, share ideas, and engage in thoughtful discourse. It has been a place to explore the intersection of healthcare, innovation, social development, and the ethical dimensions that underlie them.

Today, I’m writing to invite you to join me in the next step of this journey.

I have moved all of my new writing to:

https://salimafshar.substack.com/ and I hope you’ll subscribe there.

its free and substack is a great platform. I have written several new articles:

Here are five reasons for this change:

  1. A Deeper Connection with Readers

Substack allows for a more direct relationship between writer and reader. It removes barriers and distractions, offering a space where we can engage in a dialogue rooted in ideas, values, and questions that matter — without the noise of an algorithm determining who sees what.

2. Freedom to Grow and Experiment

Substack gives me the flexibility to experiment with different formats: essays, reflections, interviews, and curated discussions. I want to broaden the conversation — not just share articles but also invite you into deeper questions about technology, healthcare, social transformation, and leadership in an age of rapid change.

3. Protecting the Integrity of the Work

Substack’s model is simple: it centers the relationship between writer and reader. There are no hidden incentives tied to clicks or trending topics. This enables me to stay faithful to the purpose of the work: contributing thoughtfully, independently, and with care.

4. Building a Community Around Principles, Not Platforms

In many ways, the spirit behind this move is aligned with a principle I believe deeply: systems should serve people, not the other way around. On Substack, I am seeking to build a community grounded in meaningful discourse, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to justice, unity, and the advancement of knowledge.

5. Creating a Home for Future Projects

Beyond essays, I am working on new initiatives — including newsletters, interviews, and collaborative reflections on the ethical use of AI, global health, and community-building. Substack offers the right structure to grow these efforts thoughtfully, step by step.

I want to express my deep gratitude to those who have read, reflected, and engaged with my writing here on Medium. Your support has made it a rich and rewarding experience.

I hope you will continue with me as we move to this new space:

Thank you for accompanying me on this path.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.

Warm regards,

Salim Afshar
